The original house was built in 1951 — a small gabled home on a sloped lot off 32nd Street in San Diego. The remodel worked with the slope rather than against it, boldly expanding the floor area and adding a steel frame to carry large openings — an inside-outside living space where the swings hang from the roof structure and the stair edge is nothing but a sheet of glass.
